Why do we want to keep pets?

EJ's hamster died yesterday. It's actually her daughter's hamster but she's the one taking care of it lah. She sms'd me yesterday & said her daughter was "crying very bitterly" over the death of the hamster. She didn't know how to console her.

Told her to tell her daughter that the hamster has gone to heaven to be with the Lord :) She said the daughter wouldn't believe because she knows that animals do not have a spirit. Sigh.. Whatever..

Now she tells me she understands how I felt when I lost Mac. Good grief! It's 6 months ago! Guess she wasn't able to empathize then :)

On one hand she said she hates the feeling of loss & heartache, that's why she didn't want to keep a pet! Then on the other hand she said she'll go get another one or two hamsters for her daughter.. Sigh.. Women!
