The meaning of "Good Grief!"
Since I often like to use this expression, I decide to check out on the it's actual meaning..
From Dictionary.com, its..
** An exclamation expressing surprise, alarm, dismay, or some other, usually negative emotion. For example, Good grief! You're not going to start all over again, or Good grief! He's dropped the cake. The term is a euphemism for "good God." [Early 1900s]
From Cambridge Dictionary of Idioms, it's equivalent to..
** Good heavens/grief/gracious! (ALSO Good God/Lord!)
used to emphasize how surprised, angry, shocked, etc. you are

From The Idiom Connection, it's..
** used to show surprise (good or bad)
Therefore, C-jiejie.. at the end of the day, I am still unable to answer your question of "So what's so good about grief?" Woahahaha..

Yup.. such a long msg... BUT... what's so good about grief?
haha.. i guess "grief" is something no one wants.. but if you put the word "good" before it, it kind of softens the effect.. thus making something possibly bad possibly good :)
in other words, we should always look on the bright side of things.. be positive, be optimistic..
acceptable?
