End of one month, start of another!

Time really flies.. I remember beginning of March I was just telling myself that this should be a good month & that I'll be following my new time-table to the best of my ability.. Didn't expect to be ill for two-thirds of the month!! To be precise, I've fallen ill for 22 days! Walao.. Really BAD lor!

So happens that I'm not working. What if I am "gainfully employed"? Haha.. I was thinking likely I'll be back in the office spreading virus & die coughing lor.. & by the way, my virus is definitely very powerful one.. the 打不死 kind. Yeah!

All my activities have been put on hold since I fell ill, so I literally did nothing this month except coughing & blogging :( Tomorrow will be the start of another month. Am I able to get things started? Haiz.. Must build momentum again.. Well, guess I really have to.. Afterall, time is $$$ & time & tide wait for no man.. Not getting any younger leh! & also must not lose focus of my "goal" for the next 2 years..

Blurrblob, 加油!

Baby's latest photo

Using the scanning feature..

yippee.. sooo happy.. jz discovered that i can actually use the scanner quite easily to scan photos to the computer. didn't realise that at first. thought i need to buy some extra gadgets to store then download.. so silly of me! it's actually so idiot-proof lor.. hehehe.. happiness..

My Fair Lady (1964)

Trivias..
* Audrey Hepburn was voted #3 Woman in AFI's 50 Greatest American Screen Legends.
* My Fair Lady was voted #94 in AFI's 100 Greatest American Movies of All Time.
* Although Audrey Hepburn vigorously prepared to do the singing, her voice was dubbed by Marni Nixon. Hepburn was terribly upset by the substitution.

Princess Diana (1961 - 1997)

Coma (1978)

Another unforgettable movie.. Actually, I feel really OLD, recalling all the "good-old-days" movies..

An inquisitive hospital physician (Genevieve Bujold) discovers that unscrupulous higher-ups on the staff are drugging healthy patients into a comatose state, killing them, & selling their organs to rich patients in desperate need of transplants. When she confronts her ambitious doctor lover (Michael Douglas) with the information, he refuses to believe her, & she sets out alone to expose the sinister conspiracy.

Adapted from the best-selling book by Robin Cook, COMA is directed by Michael Crichton, who later scripted the phenomenal JURASSIC PARK.

The Promise (1979)

Has anyone seen this movie? It's based on one of Danielle Steel's
best-seller "The Promise" (1978).
A beautiful love story. This, I also watched numerous times. As you can clearly see, I'm a movie buff.
*****************************************
Kathleen Quinlan as Nancy/Marie
Stephen Collins as Michael
*****************************************
I must share the story with you..

Michael Hillyard, "heir" to a successful NY corporation, is in love with an orphaned artist, Nancy McAllister. His mother, Marion, who is determined to have the best for her only son, does not favour this relationship. The couple make
a promise that they'll never say goodbye to each other. One day, they drive off to elope, but a horrible accident happens, leaving Michael & his friend hurt, & Nancy with her face totally destroyed. In an attempt to separate Nancy & Michael, Marion offers a new life for Nancy: She will send the girl to a plastic surgeon in San Francisco to reconstruct her face if Nancy promises never to contact Michael ever again. Realizing there is no hope left, Nancy agrees to leave Boston, & for the next 2 years, lives in San Francisco & takes on a new identity as Marie Adamson, a photographer. Everything on the outside changes except her love for Michael. Marion tells Michael that Nancy is dead, & he becomes a workaholic to numb the pain in his heart. A medical building project brings Michael to California where he comes face-to-face with Marie. She is deeply hurt when Michael is unable to recognise her. Meanwhile, the plastic surgeon has fallen in love with his own "masterpiece". The plot thickens.. So want to make a guess as to whether Michael & Nancy will be reunited? Well, truth always reveals itself & nothing can stand in the way of fate.. in the way of the promise they made to one another..

Intrigued? Go watch the DVD.. Hehe..

Hello, Doc!

Mum developed a really bad rash. She was even having fainting spells. Oh dear! So brought mummy to doc this morning & since we were there, I decided to consult doc on my cough as well. Sigh! She told me that I should just allow myself to continue to cough until I eventually recover. However, should my cough persist another week, I might just need to go for a check-up e.g. x-ray or something.. Well, see how lor..

Mummy's rash is really serious. It's all over the body. Poor woman. Doc thinks it's due to food allergy. If it's me, I probably would have "died itching"! Requested that Doc give her a jab to ease the discomfort. Now mummy's sleeping. Me tired from the stress too.. Not sure if I should go out today. Hmmm...

Joke for the day..

The Titanic was sinking, and there weren't enough lifeboats.
So the captain had to persuade male passengers to jump into the icy waters to make room for women & children.
To the British he said, "You must act like gentlemen!" They jumped.
To the Americans he said, "You can be heroes!" They complied.
To the Germans he said, "It's the rule!" They obeyed.
To the Japanese he said," It's the consensus!" They obliged.
Then came the Singaporeans & they just weren't budging until he came up with the appeal:
"Free life jackets for those who jumped!"

Finally finished my flu medication!

Yes, I'm done with it! But I'm still coughing, bad. Honestly, I don't intend to do anything about it. At least not for the time being. Enough of taking medicine. Left the house at around 2.30pm & got home around 9pm. Tired cz had to do all the errands for sister. Had been delaying it for sooooo long.

Went for a short interview at 6.30pm at Cantonment Road for a part-time telemarketing position. After that, bumped into Elel. What a coincidence!

After dinner, found that mummy has rashes all over her body! Gave her a chlorpheniramine for anti-itch. Hope she gets better & sleeps well tonight.

Sister came home from dinner with friends & is now itching all over cz she says she drank Singapore Sling & is allergic to something they've mixed in it. Haiz.. that's my family!

3 brothers all in showbiz

Paul Chun 秦沛 (Born: 1945)

David Chiang 姜大卫 (Born: 1947)

Derek Yee 尔冬升 (Born: 1957)

& strangely, all 3 use
different surnames..

Paul Chun = Yim Cheong
David Chaing = Yim Wai
Derek Yee = Yee Tung-Sing

New role

Ya, got new role now.. as baby-sitter! Was looking after baby the whole afternoon. So tired myself & coughing badly but couldn't even sleep cz she's really hyper-active & refuse to nap nowadays. Good thing she's quite obedient to me.

But kind of worried about her learning abilities. She doesn't seem to be very bright in terms of her memory & co-ordinating her limp movements. Hope these are not signs to a more serious learning problem.

The Decadent Generation

Was reading the Sunday Times this afternoon. Read about "the secret lives" of our teenagers.. particularly pertaining to their sex lives. It's shocking to note that the moral values have degenerated to such an extent!

Although the sample size was a rather small one, it will still give a rough estimate to the fact that pre-marital & unsafe sex is really practised quite freely here. Jz imagine.. average age for 1st sex experience is 15.5 while through a more formal survey, the average age is 18.4. I think something is really very wrong with our society these days. Parents are unable to inculcate the right values to their children & these kids are very susceptible to immorality & erroneous peer influence.

I remembered PBG once told me that her very rich & famous clients also told her that they pactise all kinds of sexual acts, including oral sex, homosexuality, threesomes, foursomes, what-have-yous, & all the unmentionables.. The richer they are, the more active they get..

We actually had an argument over this cz I told her that these people actually find their lives meaningless that's why they go for such vices. She disagreed saying that they find joy & satisfaction in it. But I reminded her that it's bcz they are so rich, they have nothing to look forward to, so they think that these acts, though pleasurable & exciting, are jz short-lived lusts. Afterwhich they'll be overwhelmed by a sense of emptiness. She later agreed as many of them did tell her that they actually contemplate suicide very frequently. Told her that these people actually need the Lord. Of cz she'll disagree with me on that lah.. haha.. regardless lor..

Therefore, dearly beloved..
"Flee fornication. Every sin that a man doeth is without the body; but he that committeth fornication sinneth against his own body."
~1 Corinthians 6:18~

Ingrates

I hate ingrates! I especially hate it when it's someone from the family. It's such a shameful thing. I'm in total disgust!!

Mini-cushions for Sale

Pretty cushions for sale. It's a pair of mini-cushions from the now defunct MediaWorks. A rare find.

Any takers?

Be imitators of God

Therefore be imitators of God, as beloved children;
and walk in love, just as Christ also loved you and gave Himself up for us, an offering and a sacrifice to God as a fragrant aroma.
But immorality or any impurity or greed must not even be named among you, as is proper among saints;
and there must be no filthiness and silly talk, or coarse jesting, which are not fitting, but rather giving of thanks.
For this you know with certainty, that no immoral or impure person or covetous man, who is an idolater, has an inheritance in the kingdom of Christ and God.

~Ephesians 5:1-5~

Therefore be careful how you walk, not as unwise men but as wise,
making the most of your time, because the days are evil.
So then do not be foolish, but understand what the will of the Lord is.

~Ephesians 5:15-17~

我的怕黑猫猫

dunno why she's so afraid to be alone!? whenever she doesn't see anyone in the house, she'll start making a lot of noise. when i'm taking my shower, she'll be meowing outside until i pacify her. when i'm in the room, she'll sleep in the room.. either on top of the box the gave her or using on my foot as her pillow.. when i'm in the hall, she'll follow suit & sleep underneath the chair.. but most of the time, she prefers to sit on my lap. & i have to rock her like a baby sleeping on a sarong. oh boy, right!? never seen a cat so 怕寂寞,so 怕黑!唉!

This 82 yrs old beauty..

Praise the Lord! Yes, she's my mum & she's 82. Not sure if I would like to live to this age but she sure is a big blessing to all of us.. & the fact that she's still so active & mobile, even with her walking stick, is a double blessing..

She went to church in the morning, after buying a whole chunk of breakfast. We had steamboat with her at Coca. King & YC came too. Lunch ended around 3pm. Collected the strawberry shortcake from Mandarin Chatterbox. We cut the cake at around 6pm. Brother & family had to leave after that. Niece & King came back & had dinner, then left. Not a very eventful day but we were all rather tired anywayz..

Happy birthday, Mummy dearest!

Depression

I really think Lan Lan is suffering from depression! She's been awfully quiet of late, just sleeping & sleeping, day & night.. She hardly eats. All the food's been left there to rot! & seems that she's not really been drinking much too.. I'm really worried. Then I realised that she'll only eat when you sit beside her.. of course provided that it's the food she likes too lah.. & she seems so afraid of loneliness! She makes a lot of noise when she finds no one in the house. Meowing away as if to call for companionship. Always wants someone to be around her. She's so unlike a cat! Thought they are very independent creatures. She'll follow me wherever I go. If I'm in the room online, she'll sleep next to me or whin to sit on my lap. If I'm in the living room watching TV, she'll sleep under the chair in the living room. Strange kitty. But I also must not forget that she's quite an old cat already. Guess she's at least 13 yrs old which is equivalent to about 65-70 of the human age. After the sudden death of cousin's cat, now I'm feeling a bit paranoid. So afraid that she'll just die on me too! choi-choi! Will continue to monitor her further.. Poor baby..

Have you ever?

Have you ever tried rushing up an escalator but found it impossible because Singaporeans simply do not know how to keep to the left?

Have you ever tried rushing through a crowded place but can't seem to get anywhere because of 2 Singaporeans walking ahead of you with feet weighing approximately 1000 tons?

Have you ever been to a movie with Singaporeans talking on their handphones even after the movie has started?

Have you ever been forced to apply emergency brakes because a Singaporean husband who's driving his car in front of you suddenly comes to a halt because he's fetching his Singaporean wife who's slowly strolling to their car while talking on her mobile?

Have you ever been to Malaysia with Singaporeans who decide to throw rubbish anywhere just because there are no "fine $500 for littering" signs there?

Have you ever been to public toilets used by Singaporeans?

Chen Chen 甄珍

This is my favourite movie - Heart with a Million Knots (心有千千结). Seen it numerous times. Recently even bought the DVD. Watched it thrice already! hehe..

I remembered when I first bought the book, written by 琼瑶, the story was so captivating that I read till the early hours, finishing it on the same day! Then when they decided to make a movie out of it, I was exhilarated when it was Chen Chen & Chin Xiang Lin starring in it. I think I've seen this movie at least 20 times!

海难枯,情难灭,心似双丝网,终有千千结!

Names

I've heard many funny stories of names from my HK friends. One was particular funny. Hongkongers when they get married, will put the surnames of the male & female families together, e.g. 陈李联婚 (Chan & Li),刘张联婚 (Lau & Cheung).. Thus, the marriage of Mr Lai & Miss Liu would mean 赖廖联婚 which in cantonese sounds like "incontinence of the bladder"!

Talking about "strange English names"! There's this Mr Lu who called himself Water, so he's Mr Water Lu. Then we also have girls who called themselves Rainbow, Pencil, Jewel, Camera, & what-have-you.. Have you heard of Noodles Cheng? Wonder why would anyone call themselves by such a name!? Besides all the Ah Lian & Ah Beng names, some parents also never consider properly before they "baptize" their kids with names! I came across this name of Choo Choon Chye! Imagine you are not only called Choon Chye (=蠢才) day-in-day-out, your surname has to be Choo (=猪)! Big sigh lor! As for those with the surname of Ng (吴), the name that follows this surname is very critical cz if you are called 吴美丽(not beautiful) or 吴天聪(not intelligent)..

By mentioning this doesn't mean that I'm jeering at others. Jz thought it's quite funny & jz like to share with you people.. Hahaha...

Postscript

Oh, one other reason that I was so exhausted was because I bathed Lan Lan yesterday. Yes, it's very tiring to bathe her. Especially when I'm so weak! & she was also "screaming her head off" cz I think she really hates to be wet! & perhaps her ear is hurting too. Naughty mummy!

Fat Chow

Ch 61 is now showing God of Gamblers 2. This would be the umpteenth time I'm watching this movie. But strangely I'm still not bored by it. One thing for sure he's a fantastic actor. 是百年难得一见的一位好演员! The script is not flawless but it sure is entertaining. With the other excellent actors like 吴倩莲,梁家辉,徐锦江,等。。made this movie really watchable lor..

Exhausting Day!

Yes, that's yesterday's description! Considering I was still relatively ill, I had to lug myself to JB to do the much-delayed errands! It was extremely exhausting! Reached JB around 4.30pm, missed banking hours, & finally only got in to Singapore at around 7.30pm!! Terrible traffic jam! I'm totally drained :( Still coughing incessantly..

Arranged to meet L-girl for brunch this morning at 11.15am. Haha! My home clock stopped & I woke up at 11am thinking that it was only 9.45am! Good, right? Well, c'est la vie!

Back home now resting, but jz remembered that I still need to pick up video tapes from office today. Woe is me.. Back to the grinding mill..

ya.. she's smelling again! it's all my fault! time for some rectification & remedial actions. mz not fall ill again.. how to take care of my loved ones if i'm ill? haiya.. hopeless me!

"Never Say Die"

Jz finished watching Channel 8's "Never Say Die" hosted by Kym Ng & Pat Mok. What a combo, & what a program! Haiz.. These people are really the commonest of the commons.. All the Ah Bengs & Ah Lians, superstar-hopefuls, some super ugly too! Don't understand how they can select that Steven Lim >:( ???

Psss.. Don't mean to be so critical but jz couldn't help it :(

I trust that the intentions of the producers are genuine & this production's done with sincerity but it's definitely produced in poor taste lor.. The hosts are watchable but not the "contestants". Can't they get better candidates?? More pleasurable-to-the-eyes ones? Please don't forget this is TV entertainment leh!! Aiyoyo..

A funny story...

“A man feared his wife wasn't hearing as well as she used to & he thought she might need a hearing aid. Not quite sure how to approach her, he called the family doctor to discuss the problem. The doctor told him there was a simple informal test the husband could perform to give him a better idea about her hearing loss.

“Here's what you do,” said the doctor, “stand about 40 feet away from her, & in a normal conversational-speaking tone see if she hears you. If not, go to 30 feet, then 20 feet, & so on until you get a response.”

That evening, the wife was in the kitchen cooking dinner, & he was in the den. He said to himself, “I'm about 40 feet away, let's see what happens.”

Then in a normal tone he asked, “Honey, what's for dinner?”

No response.

So the husband moved to closer to the kitchen, about 30 feet from his wife & repeated, “Honey, what's for dinner?”

Still there was no response.

Next he moved into the dining room where he’s about 20 feet from his wife & asked, “Honey, what's for dinner?”

Again he got no response.

So he walked up to the kitchen door, about 10 feet away. “Honey, what's for dinner?” he asked.

Again, there was no response.

So he walked right up behind her.. “Honey, what's for dinner?”

”James, for the FIFTH time, I've said CHICKEN!”

Moral of the story:
The problem may not be with the other one as we always think.
It could very much be within us!”
