Please keep LEFT!

Each time I take the MRT, I am always exasperated by a certain group of commuters. Apparently this group of people are either illiterate or they do not take advice well. Whether you are going up or down the escalator, you are always supposed to "keep left" & give way to those who are in more of a hurry. Unfortunately, none seem to bother. I believe it's time for the govenment to impose a penalty to anyone who doesn't keep left & block the way of others. I think this is the only way for us to have "a gracious society".

I think those are forgetful people like myself. Once you say "Excuse me", I will realise my mistake and switch to keeping left. Unless you are talking about those who purposely keep right to "irritate" people who are in a hurry, or else let's just be gracious. - Faithful

Then we definitely have a huge bunch of forgetful people in Singapore!

I believe it's a matter of being considerate & constantly reminding oneself of the existence of others, rather than to use forgetfulness as an excuse cz such "Please keep left" signs are found everywhere in the MRT stations, especially before you step onto an escalator!

We use escalators in Singapore EVERYDAY. I believe this keeping-to-the-left practice should be developed as a habit by now. This should be a norm rather than an exception! & it is not a matter of whether I am gracious or otherwise :)

I'm not sure abt you.. but i do know that for senior citizens, keeping left is rather difficult, cos they are more used to using right hand to hold the escalator railings.. and after that, they just continue in that line of movement, like my mummy dearest. ~Blue

My dear,

Of course it's not the old folks I'm referring to lah.. I hv better sense than that!

Jz go to mrt stations like Orchard, Toa Payoh, Dhoby Ghaut, & you'll know what I mean. Usually it's not the going-down that's the problem. It's the going-up :(

These people jz conveniently fill themselves on the escalator.. every step is filled up.. so how to say "Excuse me" to the entire column of people & try to squeeze between them? ??

yah.. try raffles plc and tanjong pagar on a wkday.. but then no choice.. if both sides already filled up, then just got to take ur line. cos if all just queue to one side.. the queue would be 4ever.

oh, just wanna share.. today i saw this bangladeshi guy gave his seat up to this pregnant woman.. she just say no.. but he left the seat for her. I mean.. hey, stupid woman, can't u just sit for the sake of politeness.. i mean, the guy won't go back to sitting again after standing up, can't she just give him "some face". Really can't stand it. Sometimes, u wonder if these preggies do deserve a courtesy seat for their "rudeness". Fumes! ~blue
